5 Questions with Josh Burrows..

2020 marks Josh Burrows’ 10th season with Acton C.C., having migrated north from Lewes Priory C.C. in the Sussex league 2010. Josh quickly cemented his place in Acton history with his legendary and near perfect renditions of Warren G’s regulate at the end of season karaoke, constant claims to have never dropped a catch, and regular moans about batting below Robin Reeve for Dan Waddell’s 2nd XI. On the pitch, JB has been a consistent performer for the 2nd XI for much of the last decade, and on his day he has bowled a number of legendary “tall” spells to rip through some of the best 2nd XI batting line ups in the county. Here are our five questions with JB….

How and when did you join ACC?

I played cricket with Alex Brennan at university. When I moved to London afterwards, AB lured me to Acton by claiming that it was the most centrally located club in London. My first season was 2010. I've always lived more than an hour's travel away, but couldn't think of playing anywhere else.

What are the biggest differences between cricket in the Sussex and Middlesex Leagues?

The diversity in London means there's a far wider variety of opponents here, with a wider range of techniques and skill. There are more and better spinners than in Sussex and clubs have much more strength in depth.

What is your most memorable match for Acton?

I'm going to skip over my two seven-fers in 2017 and reach back into my second season for the club, when we beat Highgate 1st XI away, by one wicket. Chasing 227 to win, we were 61 for seven only for Matt Reeve to hit 117 from 82 balls (every single run through mid-wicket, as I recall). Unbelievable afternoon. http://actoncc.play-cricket.com/website/results/1639490

Who has been your toughest opponent?

Difficult to distinguish between the batting automatons in the Richmond, Teddington and Ealing top orders. Especially when they're set to "destroy" mode on three of the flattest pitches in the county.

What is your all-time Acton XI?

If I could only play one more game for the club, here's the team I'd like to to play alongside me (in batting order)

  1. Josh Burrows

  2. Adam Forsdike

  3. Alex Manning

  4. Dan Waddell (c)

  5. Keith Hunt

  6. Javinder Sahota (wk)

  7. JJ Fell

  8. Sunil Ghumra

  9. Alex Brennan

  10. Rob Reeve

  11. Mushi Rauf
